Ms. Elnora Johnson

Elnora Johnson, daughter of Charlie and Lee Bertha Johnson arrived to the joy of her parents on June 2, 1924. She was the youngest of six children: Charlie, Robert, Fannie, Bill, and Sylvester Johnson. Her parents and all of her siblings proceeded her in death. As a child in Rosedale, Mississippi, she accepted Jesus Christ at an early age as a member of St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church. As a young adult Elnora decided to leave Mississippi following in the footsteps of her sister Fannie. She too went in search of a better life up north. In 1943, she met and married Alex Harrell. He was affectionally known as "Brown". Alex proceeded her in death and no children were born to this union. She later married Eugene Burrage who also proceeded her in death and also to this union no children were born. Elnora was a hard worker, everything she did she did with an attitude of gratitude and a heart of love! She began as a domestic worker. Despite some unfavorable conditions she never complained. She was also employed at Malmount where auto parts were made. Later she became a home health care worker for Bethel New Life in Chicago. Elnora was a member of the eastern star, Martha chapter #3. She was a faithful member of the new rising sun missionary Baptist church under the leadership of Rev. Cleveland Whittington. She served on the ursher board until her health began to fail her. She then made her presence at Rush Barton Senior apartments on Wood Street. In November of 2011 she once again followed her sister Fannie and took up a residence at Belhaven Senior Residence and Rehabilitation Center. There they were dubbed "The Golden Girls". Elnora made her transition on Wednesday November 11, 2020 at Little Company of Mary Hospital. "Aunt Honey" as she was so affectionally called was always as sweet as Honey! Always giving , never looking for anything in return. Love just oozed out of her very being. She truly was a dispenser of unconditional love for her fellow man and woman. A phenomenal woman of God. Elnora never had any biological children, but she mothered a village! She was not just aunt honey.... she was "Mother Aunt" to many. She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy two matriarchial nieces: Annie Mae Euell (Kathleen, Odis, Alfred, and Marcy) Mary Lee Pitts (Rose, Tiara, Felton, Diane, Susie), a devoted great niece Kathleen Williams (Karinne, Samuel), a special daughter Kimberley Baker (Kenyanna), special nieces: Barbara Shakoor (Laron, Shannell) Julita Phillips (Seretha, Aubrey), Shirley Richmond (Latacia, Gemae), Ollie Hall (Jordell), Lee Bertha Johnson (Joe, Nathan), Rosie Lee Toy Johnson, Eunice Slaton (Micah, Erica, and Randall), Maple Johnson (Ann, Laney, Carol). Nephews: Charles Barnes, Gabe Barnes Jr., Earl Johnson, Ozell Johnson, Milton Johnson, Leroy Johnson, and Charles Sammie Johnson. Extended family nieces and nephews: Freddie Mae Johnson, Fannie Mae Johnson, Lonnie Johnson, Sylvester Johnson Jr., Willie Johnson, Lucille Johnson, Rosie Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Monroe Johnson, Willie Johnson II, Sylvester Johnson III and Charlie Johnson. A great host of first great, second great, third great and fourth great grand nieces and nephews. Cosuins Elnora Wesley, Audisteen Euell and Joe Eddie James. Along with many other family and friends. Ms. Elnora Johnson visitation will be Wednesday from 3 until 7 P.M. at CARBONARA FUNERAL HOME, 1515 North 25th Avenue, Melrose Park. Funeral will be Thursday.
