Ms. Sonya Y Robinson

Sonya Yvette Robinson was a beautiful soul! She was thoughtful, generous, loving, and most of all, courageous. On November 4, 1961, she was born in Chicago, Illinois, to the Union of Edward L. Robinson (who preceded her in death) and Pauletta Robinson. Sonya devoted her life to Christ at an early age; attending church on Sundays was a cherished tradition in the Robinson household. On November 12, 2012, under the leadership of Pastor Ken Hansen, she rededicated her life to Christ and was baptized at Living Water Community Church located in Bolingbrook Illinois. Sonya attended Westinghouse High School, where she formed lifelong friendships. After graduation in 1979, she continued her education at Wright College and later transferred to Malcom X College, where she received her Associate Degree in Applied Science in Radiology. After years of being a Radiologic Technologist, she further advanced her career by becoming a board-certified CT Technologist. Throughout her professional journey, Sonya worked at several hospitals, Louise Burg Hospital, Mac Neal Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital before finding her professional home at Edward Hospital. Anyone who truly knew Sonya knew that she was an avid reader who loved to laugh, travel, listen to music, exercise and spend time with her family and friends - especially her nephew EJ and her fur baby, Romy. Sonya simply loved and enjoyed life.In 2023, Sonya was diagnosed with an idiopathic lung disease that required her to have a lung transplant. For two years, she fought with tenacity, determination and courage. On February 27,2025 she received the long-awaited call from Loyola University Medical Center that her wait was over, and a donor had been found. After the transplant, Sonya experienced many ups and downs, but through it all, she handled every challenge with grace and never once complained. On March 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and friends, Sonya’s earthly battle came to an end, and her new journey of peace began. She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Pauletta Robinson; her sister, Jerri Robinson; her brother, Edward (Landon) Robinson, her nephew, Edward L. Robinson Jr. (E.J) her beloved dog Romy and a host of other relatives and dear friends. Sonya lived a life that mattered, she fought the good fight in only a way that Sonya could do. She finished her race and kept the faith. May her legacy live on in the lives of all who knew and loved her Visitation Thursday, March 26,2026 3-8 PM.
