Mr. Bernard Bruno Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Bernard “Barney” Joseph Bruno passed peacefully on July 6th. He was born to Sicilian immigrants, Carmen and Josephine (nee Perrone) on July 11, 1922 in Melrose Park, IL. He attended Mt. Carmel Grade School in Melrose Park, IL, and graduated from Fenwick High School in Oak Park, IL, in 1940. After surviving a training crash in the Army Air Corp during WWII, Barney utilized the G.I. Bill to receive his Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctor from DePaul University in Chicago in 1947. He went on to become a practicing lawyer for over 60 years, licensed in Illinois, the Federal Court and the United States Supreme Court. He was an accomplished attorney, political consultant, mentor, lifelong anonymous philanthropist, avid golfer, world traveler, voracious reader, artist, spectacular cook and late-life author. Barney lived a beautiful and rich life in his 100 years. Barney now joins his parents, his brother Leonard, and many family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Rose Marie (nee Guarrine), his children Mary Jo (Angelo) Egizio, Anthony (Patricia Bex) and Joel; his grandchildren Jessica, Dominic (Pamela), Victoria Egizio (Frank Yokosh), Angelo Egizio, Casandra and Joel Jr., great-grandchildren Cheyenne, Oliver, Ariana and Vera, great-nieces Rosa and Bernadette and numerous family and friends. Beloved by all who encountered him, Barney was a benevolent force, an extraordinary story-teller and an overall amazing person. He will be greatly missed by everyone in his orbit. Visitation will be held Thursday July 14, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carbonara Funeral Home, 1515 N. 25th Avenue, Melrose Park, IL, followed by mass on Friday July 15, 2022 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 819 N. 16th Avenue, Melrose Park, IL.
