Live Stream Link for Mass and Cemetery Services www.Memorialslive.com/james Daniel Herbert James, age 89, the second youngest of five sons born to the late Herbert Owen and Helen May James (nee Callaghan), and raised in Oak Park, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2021 surrounded by family at his home in Melrose Park. Beloved husband of the late Corinne E. James (nee O’ Brien) for almost 67 years, Dan was a devoted father, avid sports enthusiast, amateur oil painter, accomplished singer and daily communicant at Sacred Heart Parish. He was a loving father of seven children, Mark (Linda), Daniel Jr. (Jean), Julie (the late Terry) O'Brien, Carol (Jeff) Lemke, Margaret Reedy, Anne (Tom) Ruedi and Mary (Jim) Paschall. Devoted grandfather of 26 grandchildren, Kelly, Matthew, Brian, Erin, Jennifer, Kevin, Therese, Patrick, Christopher, Nicolas, Noah, Alex, Danielle, Harry, Grace, Clare, Catherine, Daniel, Joseph, Elizabeth, Bridget, James, Theresa, Joseph, Maria and Andrew. Proud great-grandfather of 11 great grandchildren, Oliver, Sadie, Hudson, Lily, Elizabeth, Charlotte, Corinne, Santiago, Emilia, Aleksander and Benedict. Dear brother of the late Richard and Helen James, the late Don and June James, the late David and Marilyn James, the late Phillip (Nancy) James. Cherished brother-in-law, uncle and friend of many. Dan spent most of his years in the western suburbs of Chicago attending grade school at Saint Giles Parish, and Fenwick High School. After earning his degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1953, Dan joined the D.O James Gear Manufacturing Company. In July 1954 he married Corinne the love of his life, in a storybook wedding. Upon joining the US Army they moved to Fort Eustis Army Base in Newport News, Virginia where their first-born son arrived. Upon completion of his military service Dan returned to the Chicago area where their remaining 6 children were born, raised and influenced by Dan’s strong faith and devotion to the Blessed Mother nurtured as a member of Opus Dei. Dan’s career included time with Brown Wood Products, Jamestown Forest Products, Inc, the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), The Chicago Rock Island & Pacific Railroad, and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago were he ended his career before retiring in 1999. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dan's name to Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org , Woodlawn Foundation www.woodlawnfoundation.org or Misericordia Home www.misericordia.org. Visitation will be held at Carbonara Funeral Home, in Melrose Park, IL on Sunday June 13, 2021 from 3 PM to 7 PM CT and Monday June 14 at 9 AM CT. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Parish, 819 N 16th Avenue Melrose Park, Il 60160, on Monday, June 14, 2021 at 10 AM CT. Funeral Mass will be live streamed with the link to be provided through www.CarbonaraFuneralHome.net.
