Mr Joseph "Joey G" A. Giunta

Joseph A. Giunta, age 65, passed away on April 17, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on January 13, 1961, Joseph spent most of his life in Melrose Park, Illinois, and later resided for several years in Wheaton. He was known for his strong will and stubborn nature, traits that those closest to him came to know as part of his character and charm. Joseph dedicated many years to the food service industry, where he became a familiar and respected face to countless customers. He proudly served as a longtime manager at Johnnie’s Beef in Elmwood Park and later at Augustino’s Rock and Roll Deli in Carol Stream. He took great pride in his work, especially in making pizza and sandwiches, and built lasting relationships with the people he served. Outside of work, Joseph was an avid Chicago sports fan, cheering on the White Sox, Bears, and Blackhawks. He was also a devoted listener of ESPN AM 1000, especially “Kap and J. Hood,” and was well known for calling into the show regularly. He enjoyed betting on and watching horse racing, one of his favorite pastimes. Joseph was also a passionate rock ’n’ roll enthusiast, a die-hard fan of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath, and someone who truly loved the music that defined his generation. Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Carol nee Vozella, and his son, Joey. Carol lovingly supported him and remained by his side throughout his many ailments and health challenges. He is also survived by his sisters, Diane Olcikas (née Giunta) and Geraldine Bentel (née Giunta), as well as many nieces and nephews, including Michael Tillman, Joseph Tillman, Michael Olcikas, Nicole Harms (née Olcikas), and Rene Hanczar (née Olcikas), to whom he was a fond uncle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph L. Giunta and Mamie Giunta (née Romano). Joseph will be remembered for his dedication to his work, his love of Chicago sports and rock ’n’ roll, and the many connections he made throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Visitation Thursday, April 23, from 3-8pm at Carbonara Funeral Home 1515 N 25th Ave Melrose park, Il. Funeral Service Friday 9am at Carbonara Funeral Home then driving in procession to Sacred Heart Church for 10am Mass. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery
